If your CRM is not yet supported by Better Email, or if you prefer to manage contacts independently, you can upload your contacts using a CSV file.

How CSV Upload Works

Better Email's CSV upload is designed to be flexible and easy to use. The system automatically processes any file that contains email addresses.

Requirements

The only required field is:

  • Email address

Optional fields include:

  • First Name

  • Last Name

  • Tags (for segmentation)

  • Phone Number

  • Any custom fields you want to track

Upload Steps

  1. Go to Contacts in Better Email

  2. Click on CSV Contacts tab

  3. Click Upload New CSV

  4. Select your CSV file

  5. The system will automatically process and import your contacts

File Format Tips

  • No strict format required - If your file contains emails, the system will process it

  • Use standard CSV format (comma-separated values)

  • Include column headers in the first row

  • Email addresses should be in a column labeled "Email" or "email"

Download Sample CSV

Not sure how to format your file? Click "Download Sample CSV" in the CSV Contacts section to see an example format.

Using Tags for Segmentation

To segment your contacts for targeted sends:

  1. Include a "Tags" column in your CSV

  2. Add tag names (e.g., "VIP", "Past Clients", "Sphere")

  3. Contacts will be imported with these tags

  4. Use these tags when selecting audiences for broadcasts or automations

To update existing contacts or add new ones:

  2. The system will merge updates based on email addresses

  3. Existing contacts will be updated, new ones will be added

Note: While CSV upload is convenient, connecting your CRM provides automatic syncing and keeps your database up to date without manual uploads.
